Join us for a series of rodeo films, each from a different unique perspective, that together explore the myths and realities of this uniquely American sport. Week 1 - "The Rider," (2017) directed by Academy award-winner Chloe Zhao. A young up-and-coming rodeo star has to choose between his health and his passion for riding. A tender exploration of the fragility of masculine ideals from a female Chinese-American director who never sentimentalizes or stereotypes what could have been a maudlin melodrama. Zhao gets amazing performances from her cast of mostly non-professional actors.
