Rodeo On Film

The rodeo has been an important part of American culture for over a hundred years.  To celebrate and explore the cultural impact of this exciting and beloved sport, Colorado Mountain College here in Steamboat, in conjunction with the Wildhorse Cinema, is offering a fun community course - "Rodeo on Film" - five different film perspectives on rodeo on five consecutive Thursday evenings starting July 3   Week 1 - "The Rider," (2017) directed by Academy award-winner Chloe Zhao. A young up-and-coming rodeo star has to choose between his health and his passion for riding.  A tender exploration of the fragility of masculine ideals from a female Chinese-American director who never sentimentalizes or stereotypes what could have been a maudlin melodrama.  Zhao gets amazing performances from her cast of mostly non-professional actors.
